JOB DESCRIPTION

 

This role is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the higher education academic provision within the School of Business in the College, including academic development, delivery of the Teaching and Learning strategy including innovating learning and teaching, research, and school development projects.

 

This role is also to contribute to assisting the recruitment and admissions of prospective students to the School of Business. Additionally, the role may accommodate academic engagement and delivery through teaching and/or research.

Key Responsibilities

 

  1. Promote and lead a high performing academic team in the School of Business, with a clear and deliberate focus on student progression, achievement, and completion rates and employability, in line with agreed College targets;
  2. Lead and direct all the teaching, learning, assessment and academic enhancement activities of the college undergraduate and postgraduate including pre-sessional courses in the School of Business;
  3. Drive the research, planning and implementation of innovative academic resources and or activities in the School of Business;
  4. Oversight of student academic satisfaction (module, programme and college) in the School of Business;
  5. Lead the delivery of strong academic scholarly culture in staff and student communities including research;
  6. Drive the improvement of academic attainment across all programmes in the School of Business, and collaboratively across the College as appropriate;
  7. Monitor and ensure action is taken on annual monitoring reports for all programmes, External Examiners’ reports, accreditation reports, student feedback and formal written student complaints in the School of Business;
  8. Evaluate the teaching capacity and capability in the School of Business through systematic analysis of achievement and teaching observations;
  9. Jointly lead and oversee the ‘Academic Success Centre” with the Head of the School of Computing, with the key objective of enhancing the student support experience throughout their academic journey – from induction through to graduation, integrating with the alumni experience;
  10. Jointly, with the Head of the School of Computing, ensure, by leadership and oversight, that all TBC students/teachers a high standard of communication and service to ensure an appropriate level of care of their wellbeing.  This will be delivered in part by ensuring all TBC staff understand the counselling service so they can highlight the service offered through TBC Students Counselling and Wellbeing Service (TBC SCWU);
  11. Lead, and be, a key point of contact for the college academic provision (taught and research).

 

Education/Training/Requirements

 

  • Educated to at least Master’s degree level (Essential)
  • Have, or working towards, a PhD
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (Essential)
  • Postgraduate Management/Business Qualification
  • Postgraduate Teaching Qualification  
  • Understanding of academic governance issues and mechanisms.
  • Demonstrable success of delegation at senior management level in Higher Education or relevant training/education organisation,
  • Positive, flexible attitude,
  • Personal integrity and ability to establish credibility as a senior leader,
  • Critical and data analysis skills,
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills within internal and external contexts,
  • Excellent communicator – verbal, promotional, corporate and statistical reports,
  • Effective motivating, influencing and negotiating skills,
