The British College Official Statement: Addressing Recent Misinformation and Clarifying Our Position
The British College Official Statement: Addressing Recent Misinformation and Clarifying Our Position
Official Response from The British College Nepal
Published: January 2026
Introduction
The British College Nepal hereby issues this official statement to formally address and clarify recent misinformation and disinformation circulated about our institution, academic programmes, and international partnerships. As Nepal's leading UK-affiliated higher education institution, we believe transparency and factual clarity are essential for our students, parents, and the broader community.
Following a thorough examination of documented evidence, student records, government approvals, institutional correspondence, mediation records, digital communication logs, and police documentation, this statement establishes that what initially appeared to be a student protest was, in reality, a coordinated attempt to extract large sums of money from the institution—a financially motivated extortion attempt—combined with reputational sabotage and institutional destabilisation.
This statement sets out The British College's official response to the ongoing rumours and provides verified information regarding our academic programmes, regulatory compliance, and unwavering commitment to student success.

The British College Nepal Clarification on Hospitality Management Programme
In response to questions about our academic pathways, The British College provides the following clarification:
Foundation Programme Validity
• Our foundation programme was formally approved by Nepal's Ministry of Education, supported by official approval documentation
• All marketing materials, admissions documents, and official website content clearly state that the programme offers an optional degree pathway to Dubai through completion of the two-year Pearson HND Diploma, followed by final-year top-up options available in multiple countries
• This pathway structure is standard practice in UK higher education and around the world and has been transparently communicated to all prospective students
Dubai Campus Operations
• The Woolwich Institute (TWI) Dubai is a legally separate academic institution from TBC and operates under full UAE government licensing and the KHDA (Knowledge and Human Development Authority) regulatory framework
• Accommodation and internship opportunities were provided as per contractual agreements
• Over three dozen Nepali students continue to study successfully in Dubai, progressing academically and securing industry internships
The British College Response to Controversy: The Reality Behind the Agitation
Following a detailed internal review, The British College confirms that while a small number of students initially raised minor queries, large-scale agitation was never their intention. These limited matters were subsequently exploited by other individuals and external parties and escalated into a coordinated, financially motivated extortion attempt, with involvement from a small group and certain competitors seeking to damage TBC's reputation.
Key Facts Establishing Financial Extortion Motive
Trigger Events in Dubai
• One individual, a former TBC student currently enrolled at TWI Dubai, was formally issued a verbal warning by TWI Dubai for repeated misconduct and inappropriate behaviour towards lecturers and staff, with potential disciplinary action under consideration
• Following this warning, that individual and his close two associates, the first-year Hospitality Management students in TBC Nepal began influencing other Nepali students to abandon their studies and return to Nepal
Evidence of Coordinated Financial Extortion
• WhatsApp communications show planned coordination to create maximum public noise, with the explicit goal of extracting large financial payments in the name of settlements from TBC Nepal
• Dubai returnee Hospitality Students were promised by these two individuals NPR 2 crore each as a claim from the College, allegedly using political influence through a so-called Gen Z movement
• This marked the point where a personal disciplinary issue escalated into an organised financial extortion strategy
False and Misleading Claims — Facts Clarified
• Claims that the foundation programme was invalid or not Ministry-approved are demonstrably false—official approval letters confirm fully approved programme
• Claims about Dubai conditions (students sleeping on streets, no accommodation, bogus institution) are entirely false and misleading—TWI Dubai is fully licensed under Dubai Knowledge Park and KHDA. Accommodation was provided as per the original contract; subsequent housing difficulties arose from individual student negligence, not institutional failure. No additional support was requested in TWI Dubai regarding their accommodation
• The individual making these claims had previously acknowledged on social media that they expected to study Pearson HND in Dubai, confirming full prior understanding of the programme structure
Escalation and Police Intervention
Campus Disruption
After returning to Nepal, the nine Dubai returnees—supported by a small group of influenced TBC Hospitality Management students—disrupted a constructive meeting convened by college officials by organising aggressive protests inside the TBC premises, creating an environment of intimidation and unrest rather than dialogue. Documented incidents included:
• Holding lecturers hostage inside rooms against their will
• Harassing academic and administrative staff
• Verbal abuse and intimidation
• Continuous unauthorised live-streaming on TikTok and Instagram
External Mobilisation and Police Arrest
As the agitation escalated over the following days, individuals associated with the protest mobilised more than 40 unrelated persons linked to student wings of various political parties—none of whom had any academic or institutional connection with TBC—to forcibly enter the campus and intensify the disturbance.
These individuals stormed the TBC campus, creating intimidation, disorder, and property damage. This resulted in police intervention and multiple arrests.
With timely intervention by Nepal Police, further escalation and serious damage were successfully prevented, restoring order and ensuring campus safety.
The police further arrested a former MSc student with the evidence of extortion attempt under Section 253 of the National Criminal Code, 2074, relating to the offence of extortion who had a large sum of unpaid fees due.
This incident demonstrated that the agitation had moved far beyond any legitimate student concerns and evolved into organised unlawful interference aimed at creating chaos, fear, and reputational harm—all in pursuit of financial extraction.
The British College Addresses Student Concerns: Proactive Resolution Despite Extortion Attempts
Despite the nature of these actions, The British College took immediate steps to address the situation in good faith:
Proactive Engagement
• Initiated direct communication with all Dubai returnee Hospitality Management students and their families
• Organised meetings with parents to understand concerns and discuss solutions
• Maintained open dialogue throughout the resolution process
Resolution Options Offered
The British College, demonstrating institutional responsibility beyond contractual obligations, offered multiple pathways:
• Full tuition refunds
• Programme transfers to alternative courses
• Transfers to other institutions
• Continued academic support for those wishing to complete their Hospitality Management studies
Resolution Outcomes
The British College is pleased to report that the concerns have been successfully addressed:
• Seven of the nine students who returned from Dubai accepted the solution offered
• Two students voluntarily returned to Dubai to continue their studies, acknowledging they had been manipulated
• Dozens of Nepali students continue their successful academic journey in Dubai
These outcomes demonstrate our commitment to student welfare and willingness to find constructive solutions, even when faced with coordinated extortion attempts.

The British College Statement on Ongoing Issue: Our Commitment
The British College remains committed to:
Academic Excellence: Maintaining the highest standards of UK-quality education through our accredited partnerships and rigorous academic programmes.
Student Welfare: Prioritising the wellbeing and success of every student, with comprehensive support systems throughout their academic journey. TBC's Mental Health and Wellbeing Unit proactively contacted multiple current and former students to check on their welfare and to offer counselling and support services where required.
Transparent Communication: Providing clear, accurate information about all programmes, pathways, and opportunities.
Regulatory Compliance: Operating in full compliance with Nepal's Ministry of Education requirements and international accreditation standards.
Zero Tolerance for Extortion: While we remain dedicated to supporting our students, we will not yield to financially motivated extortion attempts that seek to exploit our institution.
Statement on Nepal Government NOC Matters
The Nepal Government's temporary suspension of No Objection Certificates (NOC) for UAE study visas affected several colleges/universities in the UAE who do not fall under the CAA framework. This was a broad action related to concerns about unregulated institutions in the UAE mostly outside Dubai. The Woolwich Institute Dubai is regulated by KHDA but doesn't fall under the CAA framework.
Despite this matter being beyond our contractual obligations, The British College proactively:
• Contacted all affected Hospitality Management Foundation Level students and parents
• Offered comprehensive support and alternative pathways
• Provided Foundation Course completion, refund or transfer options
This response reflects our commitment to going above and beyond for our students. The College successfully concluded amicable and satisfactory settlements with all TBC Hospitality Management foundation-level students, with only two individuals choosing not to accept the agreed resolutions.
Looking Forward
The British College remains focused on our core mission of providing accessible, high-quality British education to Nepali students. We continue to:
• Strengthen our academic partnerships
• Enhance student support services
• Expand career placement opportunities
• Maintain transparent communication with all stakeholders
• Protect our institution and students from malicious actors
While we regret the inconvenience and distress this situation may have caused to our students, parents, staff, and wider stakeholders, we sincerely thank our students, parents, alumni, academic partners, and supporters for their continued trust, confidence, and unwavering support. Your belief in our mission and values remains our greatest strength.
