Professor David Parsons

Professor David Parsons is the Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at the University of Salford’s School of Computing Science & Engineering. Following an early career in banking, he “retired” in late 1993 as Advanced Technology Director, Group Information Systems, Barclays Bank Plc where his responsibilities included long term research to identify new and emerging technologies of potential business benefit to the bank. He was with Barclays for over 35 years, working in branch banking before transferring to the IT division in 1963. Within Barclays, he also held senior executive level roles in Telecommunications, Networking and Technical Research.


Since retirement he has pursued a “mixed” career which has included acting as an Independent Technology Advisor; a 10 year part-time contract as the Regional Manager North for the British Computer Society; lecturing at several universities; evaluating research proposals for the European Commission and EPSRC and researching and public engagement work at the University of Salford.
